John King
Artist Statement of Work:
I make large, tower mounted kinetic sculptures for parks and commercial areas. The wind creates complex organic motion in my work. They seem to come alive. The purpose of the work is to delight. This piece, "Silver Glider" is a horizontally flying creature that swims upstream in the wind and then tumbles back downstream. It is a living creature somewhere between a dragonfly, a praying mantis and a goose. Visitors who walk near its nest find themselves relating as they might to a large elk standing in the city park or on the street corner.
Artist Bio: John King lives on the banks of the North Saint Vrain River in Lyons, CO. where he creates kinetic sculptures that are moved by the wind and flowing water. John's background in architectural design and construction prepared him for the creating of large, tower mounted steel sculptures made for display in parks and commercial areas. The complex flying and reaching movement of his work creates a living presence in his "creatures". John loves nature and enjoys the humor and delight of natural creatures finding homes for themselves in town.
